2degrees, a New Zealand telecommunications provider, was founded in 2001 by Tex Edwards, with support from Māori stakeholders through the Te Huarahi Tika Trust . The company launched its mobile network on 4 August 2009, entering the market as the third major mobile operator in New Zealand . The establishment of 2degrees was part of an initiative to increase competition in New Zealand's telecommunications sector, aiming to provide more affordable services to consumers. The company's entry into the market led to a significant reduction in mobile service prices, a phenomenon often referred to as the "2degrees effect" . In 2022, 2degrees merged with Vocus New Zealand, further expanding its services to include broadband and enterprise solutions, solidifying its position as a full-service telecommunications provider in the country .
