Claiming a long and intricate history, the Westland Bunker was originally built in 1982 by Louis Kung. The site was known to the public as the headquarters for Kung’s company – Westland Oil – but Louis secretly constructed a 40,000 SF nuclear bomb shelter directly adjacent to the office building. Complete with two water wells, decontamination showers, jail cells, and its own diesel generators, the Bunker was designed to shelter Kung and his loved ones in the case of a catastrophic event. The facility switched hands after Kung and succeeding owners declared bankruptcy, and was eventually transformed into an IT storage campus – complete with a 100,000 SF business continuity and disaster recovery center, a 40,000 SF data center, and an additional 107,000 SF data center. Westland Bunker is headquartered in Montgomery, Texas.
